Joseph Malay

SHEET HARBOUR - Joseph Henry Malay, 82, of Sheet Harbour, died yesterday in Halifax Infirmary. Born in Malay Falls, Halifax County, he was a son of the late Parker and Bridgette (Murphy) Malay. He was a veteran of the Second World War.

Surviving are two sons, Reginald and Lawrence, both of Sheet Harbour; three daughters, Winnifred (Mrs. Alfred MacInnes), Sheet Harbour; Tina (Mrs. Brent MacDonald), Rockingham; Dorothy (Mrs. Donald O'Hearn), Dartmouth.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Eliza Bezanson of New Chester.

The body is at Crowell's Funeral Home, Sheet Harbour. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.⁵

BEZANSON, Parker Reade -- 71, of 1895 Barrington Street, formerly of New Chester died at the Victoria General Hospital June 18th. Remains are resting at Crowell's Funeral Home, Sheet Harbour. Funeral service Monday, 2:30 p.m. from St. James United Church, Rev. Glenn MacLean officiating. Interment Church Point Cemetery.⁵

BEZANSON, Jean Florence - 96, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 23, 2005, in Ocean View Manor, Eastern Passage.

Born in Sheet Harbour on September 19, 1908, she was a daughter of the late John and Maude (Cook) Kenney. Jean dedicated her life to her family.

She is survived by daughters, Sylvia (Otis) Keddy, Agnes (Reg) Dorey, both of Dartmouth; Bernice (Gordon) Spears, Sheet Harbour; sons, St. Clair (Doreen), Dartmouth; Carl (Doreen), Sheet Harbour; 26 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 12 great great-grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren; sister, Kathleen Peach, Sheet Harbour; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by daughter, Sigrid Kaiser; son, Aubrey; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Roy, Harry, Laurie; sisters, Violet Walsh, Pearl Sinclair, Frances MacPhee.

Visitation today from 1 p.m. until time of funeral at 2 p.m. in D.S. Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Main St., Sheet Harbour, Verna Dunlop officiating. Burial in St. James United Church Cemetery.³

McINNIS, Annie Margaret -- 80, Sheet Harbour, died Saturday in Victoria General Hospital, Halifax. Born in New Chester, Guysborough County, she was a daughter of the late Nathan and Edith (Langille) Bezanson.

She was a lifelong resident of Sheet Harbour and was a member of St. Peter's Church.

She is survived by two daughters. Minnie (Mrs. Leonard Lyons), Burlington, Ont; Mary, London, Ont; seven sons, Angus, Sheet Harbour; Norman, Jerseyville, Ont; Carl, Ottawa; Fred, London, Ont; Tom, Halifax; Bill, Bridgewater; Sandy, Dartmouth; 33 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Michael; two sons, Finley, Guy, two sisters, Liza Malay, Beatrice Bezanson; three brothers, Clifford, Roy, Parker; two grandsons.

The body is in Crowell's Funeral Home, Sheet Harbour, visiting and prayers 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Peter's Church, Sheet Harbour, Father Philip Theriault officiating. Cremation to follow with private burial.⁵

Mrs. Eliza Smith

NEW CHESTER, Guysborough County -- Mrs. Eliza Smith, 70, was buried in St. James' cemetery, New Chester, following service in St. James' Anglican Church on Dec. 28.

Born in New Chester, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Annie (Bezanson) Smith.

She is survived by three daughters, Irene (Mrs. Chester Bezanson), New Chester; Margaret (Mrs. Burnell Jewers), Ecum Secum; Linda (Mrs. Ross Levy), Pictou County; one son, Burney, Lower Sackville; a brother, James Smith, New Chester; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her husband Percy, a step-brother, and a grandson.⁴

BEZANSON, Irene Marie — 81, New Chester, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010, in Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital, Sheet Harbour. Born in New Chester, April 28, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Eliza (Smith) Smith.

Irene worked at Liscomb Lodge, Beaver Acres Hotel, Bright House in Sherbrooke and at Seagull Fashions. Irene's hobbies included quilting, sewing, knitting, cooking and baking, and her flower garden. She enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survived by daughter, Faye (David) Levy, New Chester; son, Allan (Mary), New Chester; stepdaughters, Gloria MacMichael, Wellington; Joan Sandever, Dartmouth; brother, Burney (Elizabeth), Bedford; sisters, Margaret Jewers, Ecum Secum; Linda (Ross) Levy, New Chester; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; two step great great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by husband, Chester; son, Loman; stepsisters, Evelyn Rudolph, Beulah McBain, Agnes Smith; stepbrothers, Chester and Thomas.

The body has been cremated, visitation Saturday, October 16, 7-9 p.m. with funeral service Sunday, October 17, at 1 p.m., all in Ecum Secum Funeral Home. Rev. Katie Tait officiating. Burial to follow in St. James Cemetery, New Chester.¹
