Obituary from Star Tribune (Minneapolis, Minnesota), 19 June 2004:
Clyde O. Bezanson, formerly of White Bear Lake, MN, died June 10, 2004 two months shy of his 89th birthday in La Jolla, California.
Preceded in death by wife of nearly 53 years, Margaret Dyar Bezanson, brothers, Hartley and Philip.
Survived by daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bezanson; granddaughters, Asha Joy and Rani Margaret; son, Ralph Dyar Bezanson, daughter-in-law Suzie Bezanson; sister-in-law, Mary Leslie Dyar.
In elementary school, Clyde did crossword puzzles under the street lights outside his house. He entered a newspaper contest that the organizers were incredulous a child had won. A teacher, having been driven crazy one day, blurted out, "Curiosity killed the cat." Clyde replied, "Satisfaction brought it back." During the Depression, he road the rails west to lessen the burden on his parents. He once conducted a geography class for a group of very high ranking military men, the kind that buff their stars. He said, "Gentlemen, there are probably 10,000 people who know more about this topic than I do. Since none of them are here, let's begin." One of his great passions was cooking and entertaining. He also loved geology, his home was filled with rocks, and geography, his walls were covered with maps. He loved reading mysteries, American history, and cook books, sometimes six at a time. He loved the ocean and was jubilant that he saw the green flash three times from his windows in February. He had opinions on every topic. What he did not know, he made up. If you were uncertain or uncaring, he was pleased to give you an opinion of his own. Most of all he loved people and conversations with strangers, friends, or family. He will be deeply missed.
