From Bezansons of Nova Scotia by Dorothy Evans:
David died soon after arrival - his name disappeared from the victualling lists. There is another family tradition (this from Bezansons in Middle River) that "one of the brothers" died of food poisoning near Grand Pre from eating "milk" left by the Acadians when he went up to get a cow. This is a date that fits David.5 |

Joseph's surname also appears as LAY and LOY in various sources.1 Joseph Ley was born in 1703 at Switzerland.2 He married Anna Barbara Eve (?) before 1750.2 Joseph Ley immigrated on 18 May 1751 to Halifax, Nova Scotia, aboard the Speedwell.3 On the passenger list, he is listed as being 48 years old, Swiss, and a farmer.3 Joseph Ley was on the victual list in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, in 1756.4 He died on 27 August 1758.2
He was a German-speaking Swiss. Joseph's date of death is reported as 27 Aug 1758, but that is also the birth date of his daughter Anna Maria. Tragic coincidence or a mistake?1
