Fremont - Lena E. Steele, 87, died on June 20, 2012, at her home.
She was born on Oct. 2, 1924, in Upper Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of the late Alexander and Janet (Geddes) Bezanson.
She moved to the United States as an infant and became a citizen in 1993. Lena grew up in Quincy, Mass., and formerly resided in Hough's Neck and Dorchester, Mass.
She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was formerly employed for many years as a fancy stitcher for shoe factories in Boston and also had worked for Nike Shoe and Keezer Manufacturing Company in New Hampshire.
She greatly enjoyed taking annual trips with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren all over Canada. She liked going out to eat and was an avid reader who also enjoyed word puzzles and games. She was talented and creative at crocheting and was well-known for the beautiful afghans that she made. Lena loved being surrounded by her family and was the primary caregiver, along with her husband, to her granddaughter, Holly, for 35 years.
She was predeceased by her son, Bruce A. Bezanson, who died in 2001, and her husband, George L.
Steele, who died in 2009; and is survived by three granddaughters, Lisa Deyermond and her husband, Timothy, Heidi Jackman and her husband, Jeffrey, and Holly Bezanson; four great-grandchildren, Raeann Croston and her husband, Daniel, Samantha Anderson and her husband, Roger Anderson II, and Aaron and Asa Deyermond; three great-great-grandchildren, Natalya Croston, Anthony Anderson and Kimberly Anderson; two brothers, George and William Bezanson; and her sister, Doris Sousa.
Services: At Lena's request, there will be no calling hours. Brewitt Funeral Service, 9 Pleasant St., Epping, is assisting the family with arrangements.1
