Marie Smith was born on 19 March 1933 at Grand Pre, Nova Scotia.2 She married (?) Weir.1 Marie Smith died on 13 October 2011 at Black River, Nova Scotia, at age 78.2

     Obituary:
Weir, Alice “Marie” (Smith) – 78, Black River, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2011 in her home.

Born in Grand Pre, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Beatrice (Pinch) Smith. Marie was a dedicated wife and a loving mother. Her love and warmth was not only for her family but it extended well beyond to friends and neighbours. Marie always had an open heart and loving smile but one of her most cherished attributes was her ability to make people laugh. She was very active in fundraising for the Black River Community Hall. She was a member of the New Minas 50+ Club for many years. Marie found pleasure in playing cards, music, and hand crafts.

Marie will be sadly missed by her sons Marshall (Joanne), Belmont; Stephen, Hantsport; Stewart, Black River; daughter Darlene (Wallace Lightle), Black River; brothers Lawrence Smith, Wolfville; George (Linda) Smith, New Minas; Maude Lahely, Maine; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

Besides her husband Victor “Dick”; she is predeceased by her daughter Deborah; and brothers Wilburn, and Bernard.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Ashton; Dr. Helyer; Dr. Burgess; Paulette Gash of the Palliative Care Team; and VON staff for their help in making Marie’s last days less difficult and more comfortable.

A graveside service will be held at the Black River Cemetery on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 10:00am with Reverend Gary Manthorne officiating.2

Bezansons from Nova Scotia implies that Lillian Bezanson was the mother of Edwin Smith's children. Given Lillian was married to Roy Harris until he died in 1954 when Lillian was 49, and given that the obituary for Marie Smith says she was the daughter of Beatrice (Pinch) Smith, I do not think that Lillian was the mother of any of Edwin's children.3,2
