Robert Davidson
Relationship2nd great-granddaughter of Jean George Bezanson
Annie Bezanson was born in 1857.1 She married Simon George Holley on 3 November 1876 at Halifax, Nova Scotia. The ceremony was performed by Reverend G.M. Grant.2,3 Annie Bezanson became a widow upon the death of her husband Simon George Holley on 16 November 1882.1 Annie Bezanson and Robert Davidson moved to Timmins, Ontario.1 Annie Bezanson married Robert Davidson on 3 September 1884 at New Harbour, Nova Scotia.4,1
Bezansons from Nova Scotia has Annie Bezanson and Minnie Ann Bezanson as the same person, but I am not convinced that is correct. Minnie Ann Bezanson married James Mitchell on 3 January 1874 and was recorded as 18 years old with parents Stephen and Caroline. Almost three years later, on 3 November 1876, Annie Bezanson married Simon George Holley, her first marriage, 19 years old, and parents Stephen and Fanny. While it is possible the three items that don't match are all mistakes (spinsterhood, age, parents), it seems unlikely. As of April 2014, I have been unable to locate the parents of Minnie Ann Bezanson, if she is indeed not the same person as Annie Bezanson.5

Mary Romans Bremner

F, #1177, b. 12 December 1822, d. 25 October 1908
Mary's history is complicated and I have not done the research necessary to understand it. I have chosen to accept the assertions by a fellow researcher, Charlie Wainwright.

Charlie has researched the family of Wenman B. Stawell. I have included little of that research here as that family is not directly related to the Bezanson line.

Mary Romans Bremner was born on 12 December 1822.1 She married Wenman B. Stawell on 3 November 1849 at Halifax County, Nova Scotia. She was 26.2 Mary Romans Bremner married George Elkanah Bezanson.3 It is possible that Mary never divorced Wenman B. Stawell and Mary and George may not have married. One way or the other, they lived as husband and wife. Mary Romans Bremner died on 25 October 1908 at Halifax, Nova Scotia, at age 85.4

Mary Romans Bremner was mentioned in the will of Wenman B. Stawell.
This is the last Will and Testament of me WENMAM BLANKLEY STAWELL of Lawrencetown, in the County of Halifax, Province of Nova Scotia and Dominion of Canada Farmer and Gentleman.

I devise and bequeath all the real and personal. estate to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease unto my son HENRY STAWELL, at present of the City of Halifax in the County of Halifax and Province aforesaid, Coffee House Manager.

I devise and bequeath, give and grant, all the real and personal estate, title or titles, honors, arms, rights, privileges, claims, properties and demands, and all and every interest to which I have been, or now am, or shall be, or should be declared to be seized, possessed or entitled as the heir of my father the late LIEUTENANT WILLIAM STAWELL, and of his uncle, EUSTACE STAWELL formerly of Coolmain Castle, County of Cork, Ireland, unto my said son, Henry Stawell.

I appoint my said son, Henry Stawell, to be guardian of my son, WILLIAM EUSTACE STAWELL arid having full confidence in his affection and care I commit to him the maintenance of his unfortunate brother.

My wife, MARY ROMANS STAWELL, having been notoriously guilty of gross sin and the author of painful family misfortunes, and having lived for years an abandoned life, I absolutely disown; and I direct my Executor to prosecute her to the utmost extent of the law should she attempt to interfere with my children or my estate or my will.

I direct my executor to permit FREDERICK MORE of Lawrencetown to enjoy undisturbed for the rest of his natural life the small lot of land I have permitted him to occupy. This privilege does not extend to his heirs or any other person whatever.

I direct and empower my Executor to reduce into his possession immediately after my decease all my estate and effects both real and personal.

I desire that my body be interred with plainness, without ostentation, in the family lot in the my body plainness, family cemetery in Minesville beside my father, mother and brother.

I appoint the said Henry Stawell, my son, sole executor of this my will hereby revoking all other testamentary writing heretofore made by me.

For the information of my Executor the said Henry Stawell, I recite certain important facts:- I am the second son and only surviving child of the late Lieutenant William Stawell of Lawrencetown in the County of Halifax, Gentleman, by his wife, ELIZABETH GREEN, daughter of BENJAMIN GREEN, Esquire, formerly Treasurer of V the Province of Nova Scotia. My father was the son of the REVEREND WILLIAM STAWELI., a clergyman of the established Church of Ireland, at one time rector of Ki1mlooda, by his wife, CHARLOTTE ROGERS, daughter of COlONEL ROGERS, and was born in the County of Cork. He was the nephew and sole male heir of Eustace Stawell of Coolmain Castle, County Cork, Ireland, Esquire, Gentleman, and by virtue of his descent claimed the title and estate of Lord Stawell or BARON STAWELL of Somerton in the: County Of Somerset.

He entered the 48th. (or the Nothamptonshire) Regiment of Foot as an Ensign l9th.Soptember 1811. He Served in the Peninsula War and received a medal with four clasps for the battles of Toulouse, Orthes, Pyranees and Vittoria. He was commissioned a Lieutenant in the 99th. (or the Prince of Wales Tipperary) Regiment of Foot, 9th.Noveznber 1815, and next year came to Nova Scotia. He arrived at Halifax on the 17th of June, 1816.

The 99th subsequently became the 98th and Lieutenant Stawell retired on half pay, March 25th, 1817. On the 19th of November of that same year at Halifax he married Elizabeth, daughter of Benjamin Green, Esquire, Provincial Treasurer of Nova Scotia. After the marriage he settled at Lawrencetown aforesaid, where he remained, with the exception of a short interval, until his death July lOth.1868. He had never revisited his native land. His wife died June 12th, 1854. Both were buried in the cemetery at Minesville.

They had in all four children. Their eldest son and first child WILLIAM EUSTACE STAWELL was born February 14th, 1819. He never married arid died insane, June l5th, 1876. Two other children were born before my birth; one of them died in childbirth, the other when it was about three months old.

I, Wenman Blankley Stawell, was born on Monday, 24th. April 1825. On Thursday, November 8th, 1849, at the Church of England parsonage at Dartmouth in the County of Halifax aforesaid, I married MARY ROMANS BREMNER, daughter of JOHN BREMNER, Esquire, of Lawrencetown aforesaid. The ceremony was performed by the Reverend Mr. Morris.

We resided at my father’s homestead from that date until 1860.

By her I had three children as follows:

WILLIAM EUSTACE STAWELL born June 3rd, 1850, still living and insane and unmarried.

HENRY STAWELL, born 3lst October, 1853; now living in the- City of Halifax, Coffee House Manager, the Executor of this my will, married ELLEN MCDONALD, August 3rd., 1880, and has three children; and

Elizabeth STAWELL born 1856, married JOSHUA SCHWARTZ of Lunenburg and died in 1884, leaving children. These three, William Eustace, Henry, and Elizabeth, were our true, lawful, legitimate and only children.

I direct my Executor to beware of any claim or demand made against my estate. I direct him to refuse to pay any account, even although attested, except after a careful, thorough, and satisfactory examination of the same.

In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirteenth day of March AD 1893.

WENMAN B. STAWELL (SEAL)

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the said testator Wenman Blankley Stawell as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us, present at the same time, who at his request, in his sight and presence, and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as attesting witnesses thereunto.
