Obituary from The Star-Tribune (Casper, Wyoming), 13 April 2004:
ATLANTIC CITY - Memorial services for Valora Jean Benzanson, 70, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Atlantic City; followed by a carry-in gathering at the Miner's Delight.
She died April 8, 2004, after a year-long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Cordell, Okla., she was the daughter of Edith May (Knight) and Samuel Houston Lewis. They moved to Ceres, Calif., in 1945 and she attended Ceres High School.
On Sept. 23, 1951, she married Al Bezanson.
She kept house while he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. The family moved to Winnemucca, Nev., in 1961 and she worked at the Winnemucca Golf Course. She and her husband were square-dancers, amateur ranchers, and travelers.
She accompanied him on a tour of duty to Tehran, Iran, in 1977 and 1978. They enjoyed the culture, their hosts, and the co-workers and friends of the Telephone Company of Iran. After returning from the Middle East and retiring, the couple sold the farm and moved to Lander.
She enjoyed traveling to the remnants of frontier towns and into the hills with her husband and dogs. She loved to nurture all living things; her love of birds turned a pair of quail into a flock of 400. Her cookies, cherry cheesecake and Christmas fudge were well-known; and she was devoted to her family.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years; daughter, Debbie Bezanson, and her husband of Morenci, Ariz; son, Rick, and his wife of Atlantic City; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers and their wives, John Houston Lewis of Sparks, Nev., and Sammy Dale Lewis of Lander.
She was preceded in death by her parents.1
