Obituary from Vancouver Sun and Province (Vancouver, British Columbia), 6 October 2024:
It is with profound sadness and heartache that we announce the passing of our father Douglas Bernard Rudolph on September 24th, 2024, with his loving family by his side.
Doug was born to parents Bernard Edward Rudolph and Hilda (Myrtle) Rudolph nee (Bezanson) in Little Liscombe, Nova Scotia on March 4th, 1939. There Doug met and married the love of his life and best friend Sharleen Rudolph nee (Corbett) who predeceased him May 27th, 2018. Doug and Sharleen moved from Nova Scotia to Vancouver, BC after the birth of their two children. Doug worked at Safeway as a Meat Manager where he met his lifetime Safeway family friends, those close friendships he kept until the end.
Doug was a people person and very social, he had a great sense of humour, he liked sports and loved playing golf. Doug enjoyed cooking Sunday morning family breakfasts for his family with country music playing in the background. Doug played guitar and sang those country music songs, and he believes he converted some of those Safeway family friends and some other meat cutters into country music lovers, because that dial on the radio at work only played country music.
Doug was predeceased by his parents Bernard and Myrtle Rudolph, as well as brothers Eldon and Grant Rudolph, Frankie Jack, sister Diane Smith.
Doug leaves behind his son Douglas (Rick) Rudolph, daughter Catherine (Cathy) Shannon nee Rudolph, the light of his life and only granddaughter Brittany (Mike) Shannon-Giles, three great grandchildren, Taytum, Maverick and Grady, Brittany's father Michael Shannon. Also left to mourn him are his brothers, Raymond (Carol) Rudolph, Lawrence (Barb) Rudolph, Gary (Janet) Rudolph, sisters, Linda Hendsbee nee (Rudolph), Darlene (Johnny) Burgoyne and sister in-laws Eleanor and Shirley Rudolph and brothers-in-law Brian Corbett (Linda), Gerald Smith, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, especially cousin Betty who was a good friend and always sent a little extra love his way.
Love you forever, we miss you already,
Rick, Cathy, and Brittany.1
