1 From The Tattrie Family of River John by Gordon MacKay Haliburton:
Sarah Mabel Tattrie b. 23 June 1880, like her brothers and sisters she attended Pictou Academy. A picture of her taken at that time shows her to have been very beautiful. She taught school for a time, then married George Murray, a merchant at Meadowville. They had no children, but brought up two foster children. She was very musical, and wrote songs (both words and music) and gave musical evenings at which friends learned to sing them. So far as is known none was ever published. After the death of her husband she came back to the homestead to keep house for her mother and brother "Ren". After his death she lived largely alone, with her constantly increasing family of cats. Eventually some she regarded as friends moved in to look after her; they proved unworthy of her trust and were with difficulty evicted by her relatvies, though not before taking the antique furniture and other valuables with them. She died 9 January 1966 and is buried at Louisville. The homestead, the house built by Louis Tattrie, was later recovered by the family with some difficulty.1
