Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon by Rev John Mason of the Methodist Church for Ernest Franklin Bezanson, 66, of 539 Central av, Needham Heights. Mr Bezanson was born in Nova Scotia Jan 22, 1864, and had been a resident of Needham 0 y2ears [20 years?]. He carried on an extensive milk business. He leaves a son, Raymond C. Bezanson; two sisters, Mrs H. E. Miller of South Hanover and Mrs H. S. Yui11 of Brockton; two brothers, C. E. Bezanson of Syracuse, N Y, and J. Z. Bezanson of Ashby, Mass. The burial was in Boxboro.⁹

BEZANSON -- In Needham, Nov. 22, Hattie A., wife of Ernest F. Bezanson, aged 62 years. Services from his late residence, 539 Central av., Needham Heights, Friday, Nov. 23, at 11 a. m. Relatives and friends invited. Interment at Boxboro, Mass.⁵

Ashby, April 8—The funeral of Mrs. Bertha Bezanson, 73, wife of John W. Bezanson, who died at her home April 3, was held at the Badger funderal home in Groton yesterday afternoon. The bearers were Albion and Roger Morse, Linnie and Robert Varney. Burial was in Boxboro.

Mrs. Bezanson is survived by her husband and daughter, Mrs. Otto Stroch of Ashby, two brothers, David Walker of Townsend and Henry Walker of Concord, N. H., and a sister, Mrs. Henry Vasey of Harvard.⁵

YUILL

Mrs. Hugh S. Yuill, age 88, of 401 E. Cheryl Drive, died in a local hospital Jan. 10, 1965. Mrs. Yuill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brockton, Mass. Survivor: Son, Calvin H. Yuill, San Antonio. Services and interment will be in Brockton, Mass. Local arrangements by HOMER McCLAUGHERTY.⁶

Claude Bezanson Dies at Age 81

Claude E. Bezanson, 81, of 1822 Rochester avenue died Sunday morning in an Iowa City nursing home where he had been a patient five weeks.

Memorial services will be held in Hazardville, Ky., where Mr. Bezanson had lived prior to moving to Iowa City August 20. He was living here with a son, Philip.

Mr. Bezanson was born September 7, 1882, in Nova Scotia, the son of Calvin and Elizabeth Vaughn Bezanson.

Also surviving is another son, Warren, of Hazardville; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Yuill of San Antonio, Texas, and two grandchildren.

Beckman's is in charge of local arrangements.¹³

BEZANSON--At her home, Jan. 14, 1955, Mrs. Blanche Eliza Redden Bezanson, wife of Claude E. Bezanson of 91 Kennbrook Rd., West Hartford. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 776 Farmington Ave. West Hartford with cremation in Springfield, Mass. There will he no calling hours. The family, requests that flowers be omitted.⁷

HADLEY, MASS. — Philip Bezanson, 58, head of composition at the University of Iowa School of Music in Iowa City, Ia., from 1954 to 1964, died at his home here Monday.

Memorial services will be held here today. The body will be cremated. Mr. Bezanson is survived by his wife, Lillian, a son and a daughter.

Mr. Bezanson received his masters and doctorate degrees from the University of Iowa and joined the U of I faculty in 1946. In 1964 he was named to head the music department at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

The recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Mr. Bezanson won awards from the Society for Publication of American Music and the Fromm Foundation and was a member of the American Composers Alliance. His compositions included a piano concerto performed by the U of I's John Simms with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 1853, and many chamber music works.

Mr. Bezanson wrote the music for an opera, "Western Child," to a libretto by the U of I's Paul Engle.⁶
