Obituary from East Coast Memorial Cremations and Funeral Counseling (Windsor, Nova Scotia), 5 August 2023:

Elva Lillian (O'Leary) Newcombe passed away peacefully on the morning of August 2, 2023. She was surrounded by family as she made her journey home. The sky was a beautiful blue and there was a gentle breeze. Not a cloud in the sky.

Elva was the daughter of Horace and Beulah (Bezanson) O'Leary. She was born in Vaughans Hants County, Nova Scotia on April 2nd, 1922. She was greatly loved by her parents and brothers and sisters. She missed each one dearly and was ready to be reunited with them. Elva was married to Raymond Wentworth Newcombe and the mother of Donna (Ronald) Bell, Hamilton, Ontario, Joan (Weldon) Brown, Windsor, Nova Scotia, Sandra (Ken) Swan, Windsor, Nova Scotia and Wayne (Christine) Newcombe, Windsor, Nova Scotia.

Elva who was lovingly known as Nannie Noonie to her grandchildren and also known as Waldo to her very special nephews will be missed more than can be put into words. She was deeply and profoundly loved by her family.

Elva was an extraordinary mother and a wonderful homemaker. Always welcoming friends and family into her home for a snack and a great conversation. She loved hearing about the adventures of her family and friend's from all over Canada and throughout the United States. She had a close relationship with everyone in her family and she made sure that each person felt special. She never forgot a birthday or a special occasion. Always sending out a card with a special greeting and a newspaper clipping of a funny story.

Everyone always made a special trip to Nova Scotia each year to see Nannie Noonie.

To have known Elva was to have known the best of us. She was always loving and generous with her time. A safe refuge to seek throughout the trials and tribulations of life.

She was fiercely loved by her family and protected at all costs. We have been so privileged to have had this wonderful lady for so long.

We find comfort in knowing that she has now made her way back out the Chester Road and across the lake. Places she so dearly loved and asked for in the last few years.

Elva is survived by daughters, Donna (Ronald) Bell, Joan (Weldon) Brown and Sandra (Ken) Swan. Daughter in law, Christine Newcombe, her sister in law, Lola O'Leary and special cousin, Dorothy Hartt. Her grandchildren, Corey (Lisa) Brown, Wile Settlement, Nova Scotia, Karen (Pat) Yeaton, Ottawa, Ontario, Kimberly (William) Swan, Windsor, Nova Scotia, Krista (Buck) Randall, Madison, Mississippi, Michael (Michelle) Bell, Toronto, Ontario, Teria (Jamie) Rogers, Falmouth, Nova Scotia, Craig (Hope) Brown, Windsor, Nova Scotia, Jody (Carmen) Newcombe, Falmouth, Nova Scotia.

Great Grandchildren, Shelby (Adam) Barker, Evan Burton, MacKenzie (Alex) Brown, Reagan Brown, Cole Brown, DJ Brown, Rachel Yeaton, Hannah Yeaton, Keegan Bell, Sam Bell, Ryder Swan-Kadjuk and Alexa Purdy. Great Great Grandchildren, Ella Veinott-Burton, Bradley Raye Barker and Oliver Rasmussen
