PROMINENT AYLESFORD PHYSICIAN PASSES

Dr. C. Seldon Bezanson, prominent valley physician and surgeon, died at his home in Aylesford, yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) following several months illness.

Highly regarded as a physician and surgeon, Dr. Bezanson practiced the profession for thirty-five years in Kings County.

Dr. Bezanson took an active part in community affairs and was actively associated with the medical societies, not only of the Valley and Province but also with the Canadian and U. S. medical societies.

For sixteen years, until the time of his illness, Dr. Bezanson was a member of the Municipal Council. He was chairman of the Building Committee and was keenly interested in West Kings District High School, Auburn.

During the depression years, Dr. Bezanson introduced the development of cranberry bogs, to give employment to many who were unemployed at that time, in the district. He built and developed three large cranberry bogs, introducing his own flooding system, whereby he tapped the Cornwallis river, passing it through to the Annapolis river. Dr. Bezanson added sprinkler systems and invented and manufactured several new picking machines to speed up crop gathering.

A Conservative in politics, Dr. Bezanson maintained an active interest in provincial and federal government affairs.

As a hobby, Dr. Bezanson devoted considerable time to the raising of Samoyede dogs, producing show champions in Canada and the U. S.

Dr. Bezanson enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a great reader especially interested in history as well as current events.

For twenty years, until the time of his illness, Dr. Bezanson took an active part in the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival and was a member of the Festival Committee.

Dr. Bezanson was born sixty years ago in Farmington, Lunenburg County, son of the late William and Annie (Davis) Bezanson. After early schooling in Farmington, he attended and graduated from Mt. Herman College, Mass. He attended Acadia in 1918 and later graduated from Dalhousie University in 1922, with the degree of M.D., C.M.

After practicing six months in Newfoundland, Dr. Bezanson moved to Aylesford, where he practiced the medical profession until the time of his death.

Surviving besides his wife, the former Gwladys Troop, are a sister, Bessie (Mrs. Clarence Veno), Halifax and a brother Arthur E. Bezanson, Berwick. A brother, J. Edwin Bezanson, Yarmouth and a sister Mary Bezanson, Farmington, predeceased him.

Dr. Bezanson was a member of the Aylesford Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge.

The remains are resting at H. C. Lindsay's Funeral Home and will be removed to the Aylesford residence, Friday afternoon at five o'clock. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at three o'clock, at the Aylesford Baptist Church. Rev. A. G. McClare will conduct the service, assisted by Rev. T. E. McLennon of the United Church, Truro. Rev. Mr. McLennon was a close friend and assisted at Dr. and Mrs. Bezanson's wedding.

Burial will be in the family lot in the Bezanson Cemetery, Aylesford. The Municipal Council will attend in a body. Also attending will be the Masonic Lodge and members of the hospital board.

Six associate doctors will be pallbearers and other members of the medical profession and close friends will be honorary pallbearers.8

Matrimonial notice in The Register, Berwick, Nova Scotia: BEZANSON - CROUSE

A very pretty home wedding took place at the home of Mr. N. A. Osborne, on Wednesday, October 29th, when Miss Carrie Crouse was united in marriage to Mr. Edwin J. Bezanson, of New Germany. The parlors were very prettily decorated. The bride, who was dressed in cream silk with lace and flower trimmings, was given away by her cousin, Mr. N. A. Osborne. She carried a bouquet of white and cream chrysanthemums. Rev. Wm. McPherson, of Waterville, performed the ceremony. Miss Mildred Skinner played the wedding march. Little children, relatives of the bride, stood near.

The presents were numerous. Conspicuous among them were the linen, a shower presented to her by her friends. The members of the Sunday School of the Waterville Presbyterian Church in which the bride studied as a scholar and has worked faithfully as a teacher presented her with a silver butter dish and knife.

After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Bezanson were taken by auto to Kentville where they took train for their future home in Lunenburg County.

The bride, who has been one of the most popular young ladies of Waterville, admired and respected by all who knew her, is followed to her new home by the best wishes of very many friends.3

Obituary from The Chronicle-Herald (Halifax, Nova Scotia), 20 February 2020:
Gerald Eaton Bezanson

Berwick, Kings Co. It is with much sorrow that we announce the passing of our father, Gerald, at age 95 years, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.

Born in Barss Corner, Lunenburg Co., on March 25, 1924, Gerald and his parents, Arthur and Mary Gertrude (Crouse) Bezanson, soon relocated to the Valley where the family operated a small bakery in Berwick. The year 1944 was a "big one" for him as he acquired his very first car and married his much loved wife of 74 years, Vivian. A charter member of the Berwick and District Lions Club, Gerald also served as Fire Chief for the town from 1950 to 1954 and on its Town Council from 1961 to 1970. Upon his retirement in 1967 from Berwick Bakery, which by then was considered to be one of the largest and most modern bakeries in Eastern Canada, Gerald continued to take an active interest in the future of Berwick through the development of several rental units within the town. His heavy involvement with the financing and management of the Berwick and District Arena plus Berwick Bakery's sponsorship of various sports teams were based on his enduring belief in the youth of Berwick. During his residence in Grafton, Kings Co., Gerald served six years as member of the Kings County Municipal Council. He loved his family dearly; however, when he moved to Fundy Villa, their early afternoon visits were not always appreciated when they interfered with his daily cribbage game.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Vivian B. Ringer, in February, 2019; and brother, Frank, in January, 2020.

He is survived by his sons, Greg (Pat), Peter (Patricia) and Danny (Sandy); grandchildren, Shona Bezanson (Patient Beya), Graeme (Alice) Bezanson, Andy (Christianne) Bezanson, Jaime (Gabriel) Sanchez, Troy (Robin) Bezanson and Chad Bezanson; great- grandchildren, Matthew, Ella, Ethan, Norah, Lauren, Imani, Etienne, Pascale and Emile. Gerald is survived also by his sister-in-law, Joan; nephew, Ric (Kathy), and nieces, Susan, Nancy and Jane.

Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26th, in Berwick Baptist Church, 265 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Evan Colford and Rev. Sarah Scott officiating, with a reception to follow in the church annex. Interment in Berwick Cemetery, at a later date. The family's heartfelt thanks go to the physicians, nurses and care staff of the Surgical Unit of the Valley Regional Hospital for the kindness and respect shown to our father during his time with them. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home.5
